About the show

MON-FRI 12:30PM - 2PM

John Biggs has been part of the Hamilton radio landscape for over ten years, and has been a regular show host on both of Talk 820's sister stations, 102.9 K-Lite FM and Oldies 1150 CKOC. As a matter of fact, he's still the regular host of the mid-day show on 1150 CKOC, weekdays from 9am until Noon, and will no doubt continue to be heard in some capacity on K-Lite FM from time to time.
His versatility, and ability to jump into any position at a moment's notice has just become part of what he's done for many years now, but it is a change of pace from his previous employ, when he spent 11 straight years as a successful morning show host in his native city of Halifax. Although he misses that regularity occasionally, life has - in his opinion - brought many other far more noteworthy changes since his radio career began 25 years ago.

"Having children changes everything", says John, "...and I mean everything - particularly when your children are born at risk. I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else but here in Hamilton when our twins were born, mostly because of the incredible people at McMaster Children's Hospital. Had we not been here, my wife and I may not have experienced the happy outcome of their birth, or have them with us now. The expertise and knowledge - as well as the compassion - of the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mac Kids are all a large part of why our twins are healthy and thriving today...and since Hamilton is the birthplace of my children, it will always be home - and special - to me."

With Talk 820, John has an opportunity to work and develop an 'art form', as he calls it, that he's always enjoyed - the interview! "I now have the chance to speak with anyone on any subject, whether it be someone calling up from our audience with something on their mind, wanting to bring their experiences or opinions to a topic, or interviewing a guest.
I've always loved the art of the interview. What the other person has to say is the whole point of an interview, to me. Often, you'll hear announcers and interviewers only bring guests on their shows to support the host's agenda. I prefer to give the guest the floor, and let them speak their mind.

Of course I have an opinion - but I can deliver that at any time - and I'm not afraid to challenge a guest...but it's your guest who should be 'given the floor', and not shouted down or disrespected.
Eventually, guests will stop showing up if you get a reputation for treating them that way. I'm also not the kind of host to say something ridiculous just to get the phones ringing, or to get the opposite reaction. I find that a bit dishonest. I'm not here to infuriate people...only to engage them.

We have a great opportunity in front of us to get to know this entire community better, regardless of how much we might think we already know about it...and there's a responsibility to serve the city.

You can't think that you're the voice of the city just because you have a chance to talk to the city. Until you listen to all the voices of the city, and in turn let those voices be heard by others, you can't assume that mantle. I don't intend to take that responsibility lightly.
Don't get me wrong. That doesn't mean we can't have a little fun along the way. I plan on having a lot of fun."
