Lorez Alexandria had just turned 61 when she recorded May I Come In, her first album for Muse. The singer's voice had held up well over time, and her phrasing could still be described as an appealing and subtle combination of Carmen Mcrae, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington. Although not quite as strong as her next album, I'll Never Stop Loving You, would be, May I Come In is a pleasing CD that finds her benefiting from the presence of tenor titan Houston Person. With Person producing and taking his share of memorable solos, Alexandria delivers tasteful interpretations of "Wave," "You Don't Know What Love Is," "I Wish I Knew" and other standards. Read More
